We all need a little help sometimes, especially when we have little to no clue on a subject, like Christian meditation. Christian meditation is not normally talked about, so we have to look to resources to help fill us in on the subject. Not only do we need resources to inform us, but we also want help on how to actually meditate. These resources will help you do both.
What are resources on meditation that every Christian should know?
Below, you’ll find a variety of resources that come from differing sources. Most are found online like websites, apps, and online courses, but books will forever be necessary.

Books
Books are always informative and helpful. The three books below should inform you of not only history but also the power behind meditation practices, as well as guiding you through your own meditations.
3. Into the Silent Land: A Guide to the Christian Practice of Contemplation – Martin Laird
The summary of this book is: “Sitting in stillness, the practice of meditation and the cultivation of awareness are commonly thought to be the preserves of Hindus and Buddhists. Martin Laird shows that the Christian tradition of contemplation has its own refined teachings on using a prayer word to focus the mind, working with the breath to cultivate stillness and the practice of inner vigilance or awareness. But this book is not a mere historical survey of these teachings. In Into the Silent Land, we see the ancient wisdom of both the Christian East and West brought sharply to bear on the modern-day longing for radical openness to God in the depths of the heart”.
4. Transforming Your Thought Life: Christian Meditation in Focus– Sarah Geringer
The summary of this book is: “Your Mind Is Under Attack. Thousands of thoughts fly through our minds every day, many of them negative. And Satan knows how susceptible we are to these negative thoughts that leave us frustrated and feeling defeated. However, the time-honored practice of Christian meditation can help us find victory in these spiritual battles. Transforming Your Thought Life offers guided meditations and personal examples that will help you train your mind to stay grounded in God’s Word. Each chapter examines a particular kind of negative thought pattern and provides key Bible verses and prayers for standing strong against it. Day by day, as you hide God’s Word in your heart and mind, you will move closer to the heart and mind of God”.
5. Christian Meditation: Experiencing the Presence of God – James Finley
The summary of this book is: “Christian Meditation introduces an ancient practice to a contemporary audience. James Finley, a former monk, and student of Thomas Merton presents the fundamentals of both understanding and practicing Christian meditation. He provides simple, helpful instructions, as well as explaining the deeper connection with the divine that meditation can bring. Above all, he makes clear that the aim of meditation is to allow us to experience divine contemplation — the presence of God”.
