Have you ever wondered where you will go after you die? If you don’t know Jesus, the Bible says that you will be judged by the wrath of God and cast into hell. Do you know where you are going to spend eternity?
How can I be saved? To be saved from the coming wrath of God you need to recognize your need for a Savior, repent and turn away from your sins, and put your faith and trust in Jesus, believing He is the only way you can be saved and accepting Him as your Lord and Savior.
In this blog, we’ll look at what you are being saved from, how you can be saved, and what it means to be saved.
What Are You Being Saved From?
When you get saved, you are not only being saved from spending eternity in hell separated from God, but you are being saved from God’s wrath and judgment.
All people are inherently sinful. In Genesis 3 we read that the first two people God created rebelled against Him and did what they thought was best for themselves.
From that time forward, the wrath of God was set against humanity. All of mankind has needed saving from the coming of God’s wrath and judgment.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23 NKJV
We as human beings were created by God to be in a relationship with Him. But because of our sin, God has rightly judged us with His wrath by separating us from His holy presence.
He cannot abide in the presence of sin.
He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.
John 3:36 NKJV
How Can I Be Saved?
- Acknowledge your need for a Savior
- Repent & turn from your sins
- Believe in Jesus
1. Acknowledge your need for a Savior
The first step is to recognize you are a sinner in need of saving.
In our culture today, we think that we can do everything on our own, including being our own lifesaver. But you need to be rescued. You cannot save yourself.
God cannot help those who help themselves.
If you never acknowledge your need for a Savior, you are not going to be able to trust in a Savior to save you from the wrath of God.
Acknowledge you are a sinner and that you need Jesus to step in and save you.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by His blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in His divine forbearance He had passed over former sins.
Romans 3:23-25 ESV
2. Repent & Turn From Your Sins
After recognizing your need for a Savior and acknowledging you are in need of saving, repent from your sins and ask God for His forgiveness.
To repent means to turn around in the complete opposite direction. It is stopping what you are currently doing and choosing to follow Jesus.
From this point on, you are choosing to no longer live in sin and continue in sinful habits. You are choosing to change your mind from trying to save yourself and placing your trust in Jesus to save you.
3. Believe in Jesus
Being in desperate need of saving and choosing to turn from your sinful ways, you need to place your faith and trust in Jesus and believe He is the only way to be saved.
There are no magic words to say in order to be saved. However, Romans 10 says,
Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing His riches on all who call on Him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:9-13 ESV
To be saved, you need to confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord and the only one who can save you from God’s wrath and judgment.
If we say that Jesus is just one of many ways to receive salvation, we are not really acknowledging that He is the only Lord and Savior. The Bible clearly tells us Jesus is the only way to salvation.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6 ESV
Jesus is God’s only Son who came down to earth to live a sinless life and die the death we deserved, taking all of God’s wrath and punishment upon Himself so that you and I never have to experience God’s judgment.
But Jesus didn’t stay dead. After three days, God rose Him from the dead and He is alive today! This proved He is who He says He is.
His death and resurrection paid for your sins so that you can be saved from eternal death.
He offers His free gift of salvation to you because He wants you to know Him.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
John 3:16-17 NKJV
If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and you want to receive His free gift of salvation today, you can confess your need for Him in your own words.
Confess you are a sinner. Ask for His forgiveness. Thank Him for dying on the cross to take all of the wrath and punishment you deserved and rising again so that you can live forever in a relationship with God.
Believe in your heart that Jesus is who He says He is and that He is the only one who can save you.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV
What Does It Mean To Be Saved?
When you come to faith in Jesus Christ, you are saved from the wrath of God.
This is not because of anything good you have done. God has freely given salvation to you through the death and resurrection of His one and only Son, Jesus.
By accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you not only are getting saved from eternal judgment and spending eternity in hell but you get to be adopted into the family of God.
You will spend eternity with Him in a perfect relationship, free from sin and the consequences of sin.
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
John 5:24 ESV
When you place your faith and trust in Jesus, you are not just putting your trust into any man but in God Himself.
God has power over death.
By believing in Jesus, you are being made into a new creation.
He changes you not from bad to good, but from being dead to alive.
And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:1-7 NKJV
This is a lifelong journey that never stops.
When you are saved, you are to look to Jesus. Every day you get to learn more about who He is and what He has done for you.
Your salvation is not based upon whether you go to church, read your Bible, or pray. It is based upon the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.
Spend time getting to know Jesus. Let Him work in your heart and transform you.
Live your life daily for Him.
Don’t wait. If you have not given your life to Christ, do it now.
Whoever comes to me I will never cast out.
Jesus — John 6:37 ESV
Today is the day of salvation for you.
