Crystals are currently everywhere. We see them all over Instagram, in stores, and even have them in our houses. But are crystals safe? Yes, they’re beautiful, but as Christians, we need to dive into what the Bible says before we bring them into our homes.
Can Christians Use Crystal? The use of crystals is unbiblical. Crystals are believed to have healing properties, are traditionally used by witches, and can become idols. Galatians 5:19-21 calls these works of the flesh. Christians need to reject witchcraft, including crystals.

Before you give into a popular fad, read this article to make sure you are aware of the spiritual implications of using crystals.
What Are Crystals?
Crystals are solid materials formed from minerals. These minerals are specifically arranged into a specific order to form a structure.
Crystals also have a specific formula needed for certain ions. Each type of ion formula creates a certain type of crystal.
Crystals are often used as pretty decorations in homes. Crystals come in all kinds of different shapes, sizes, and colors. This makes them incredibly appealing. Who doesn’t like shiny things?
Crystals have grown in popularity in the past five years and are common to have in homes. We see them all over social media. They’re highly marketed towards 16- late 20 years olds because they are aesthetically appealing.
Though some use crystals simply for decoration and to fit in, many also believe that crystals have a specific use.
What Crystals Are Used For:
Crystals are traditionally used for so much more than just a pretty decoration. Crystals have been used as amulets and talismans since as early as 4,000 BC. Amulets items believed to have a magic power.
They’re traditionally used to keep the person wearing them safe from evil spirits. Where talismans are believed to harness the magic that will grant the person wearing them power and special abilities.
Crystals gave early generations a false sense of power and safety. Because of this amulets were actually banned by the early church. However, the use of crystals did not stop there. Crystals began to be used for healing.
Crystals are believed by many to attribute healing powers. They’re considered to be mystical and be granted these powers through the Earth’s power. There are many who believe that if you rub crystals in your hands a certain amount of times that they will satisfy your needs.
Some are believed to bring you joy, mental clarity, better health, good luck, spiritual healing, and cleanse your aura. This belief derives from Buddhism. Buddhists use crystals in their rituals and practices to welcome healing and solve the issue they are facing.
For crystals to maintain their powers they also must be cleaned and kept a certain way. If that way is not followed then it’s believed that they will lose their power.
Crystals in the past and today are used in potions and other recipes practiced by witches and the occult. These people believe in a very dark form of magic which may seem innocent at first glance, but is a way of manipulating the spiritual realm.
These spells created with crystals bring about false beliefs. These beliefs are that spells can bring about one’s deepest desires with just one potion.
The ability of which crystals can hold this power is explained as the following:
Crystals hold a variety of vibrations and even have the ability of crossing the dimensional lines of reality. Therefore, they have the ability to exist in several dimensions simultaneously holding the energy of each. It is these inter-dimensional properties that actually make up the crystalline grids of the Earth.Steve Rother
Those who believe in the power of crystals believe that they hold many different attributes and impossible things. They are rooted in a very dark past that opens a door for evil and sin to enter your life.
Can Christians Use Crystals?
There are two separate views for Christians when it comes to crystals. These two views are completely opposite. It’s important to be aware of these two views so that you can look at what each one uses to support their view.
After reading both views, I’d encourage you to compare it to what Scripture says. Knowing both views will help you to see why someone might support the use of crystals and how best to point them to what God’s Word says.
View #1 – Christians Can Use Crystals
Some Christians believe that it is okay to practice the use of crystals and equate it to the use of essential oils. Crystals are made up of nature and derive from the Earth.
Because crystals are made from the planet and created by God, some Christians believe that crystals themselves cannot be evil.
Though crystals were created by God and are apart of nature, this does not mean that they are inherently good. We see the opposite in Genesis.
To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you;Genesis 3:17
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
Because of the fall, the Earth itself which God created was cursed. God originally created everything good, but because of the fallen nature itself turned bad. This shows that we should be cautious of crystals and their use.
Those who side with this viewpoint also use the fact that crystals are in the Bible to support their point. The verse typically used to show that crystals are Biblical is Revelation 21:11.
Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;Revelation 21:11
and Revelation 21:18-20
The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.
This verse is taken out of context to support crystals. Crystals and stones in this verse are used as imagery to describe God’s goodness and the Kingdom to come at the end of time. It is not just simply a listing of crystals.
Though these views at first glance seem to be legit, we must dive deeper into what God actually says and see if the views are supported.
It is easy to take God’s word and morph it to support our points. This is not Biblical and can lead us down the wrong path.
So can Christians technically use crystals? People who support this view would say yes.
View #2 – Christians Shouldn’t Use Crystals
Other Christians say you shouldn’t use crystals because of the magic and beliefs that come with them.
After doing research and reading about crystals and their background, I could feel the darkness that’s connected to them.
Reading this post alone should not be the only thing you do. You need to pray and seek the Lord about these things. Seeking Him in this will bring you further clarity and help you to prioritize your beliefs over falling into what the world views as okay.
Crystals are pictured as beautiful innocent decorations. They’re popular and used by many celebrities and influencers. You could go into any store and easily find them. This is exactly why we need to be aware of what they are actually used for and attached to.
We easily gravitate to the ways of the world because it is what appeals to our flesh.
We need to instead ask ourselves if we should use crystals. The answer to that question is absolutely not.
We need to remove the worldly filter from our eyes and ask God to help us see crystals through His eyes. This helps us to deny our flesh and better reflect Christ.
Can Christians Use Crystals For Decoration?
Crystals are beautiful and are a nice decoration. We can put them on a shelf and just look at them. We can use them to brighten up a corner or even collect them just for fun.
It all seems innocent if we don’t use them. We have to be cautious of what they really are.
They are a weapon used by the enemy to enter into our lives. Having crystals in our houses whether we believe in their supposed powers or not is a wise idea.
Having them just in our home also welcomes in crystals dark history into our lives.
The enemy is powerful and a master of deception. He has the power to use something beautiful for evil.
This is something that you need to seek your Heavenly Father about. You must surrender this decision to Him and spend time in His word to see what He says.
Are Crystals Biblical?
Crystals are more than just a beautiful decoration. They are an open door to witchcraft. The Bible does not support the use of crystals.
Though crystals are mentioned in the Bible, they are mentioned simply for imagery and to get a point across in Revelation.
You can also say that the Bible does not warn against crystals specifically. This is true, but the Bible does warn against two things that are connected to crystals: witchcraft and idols.
Warnings Against Witchcraft & Necromancy In Scripture
From the history of crystals, we see that they have always been used for purposes tied to necromancy and witchcraft. This is a very dark thing associated with the enemy.
God knew how appealing the idea of witchcraft and sorcery would be to us as humans. that He warns us about it in the following verses.
Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you.Deuteronomy 18:10-12
Moses warns the Israelites very clearly that they are not to engage in anything even related to sorcery or witchcraft. He calls these things detestable because they are against God. None of these are things we should look into or allow into our lives in any way.
The warning of being involved in such things continues into Leviticus.
Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.Leviticus 19:31
Not only are we not to practice these things are selves, but we are also not be involved with those who are connected to these things. This is because it allows the darkness of magic into our lives.
We are warned against these things for a reason. We must trust and believe the warnings which have been stated by our Heavenly Father in His word. We must turn from these things and choose Him.
Warnings Against Idols In Scripture
When we think of idols we usually imagine a carving of a false god. This is not the only type of idol.
An idol is anything that you put in the place of God. Though you may not see your crystals as an idol now, it’s very likely that they are or could be.
If you seek them for healing or help instead of your Heavenly Father then you are engaging in idolatry.
In Isaiah 44 speaks of the foolishness of idols.
How foolish are those who manufacture idols. These prized objects are really worthless. The people who worship idols don’t know this, so they are all put to shame. Who but a fool would make his own god—an idol that cannot help him one bit? All who worship idols will be disgraced along with all these craftsmen—mere humans— who claim they can make a god. They may all stand together, but they will stand in terror and shame.Isaiah 44:9-11
These false idols have no real purpose. Crystals are unable to really bring about healing. They have no real purpose other than being something that is enjoyable to look at.
I know that you may believe there is no harm in trusting the healing powers of crystals, but there is. When you pick a crystal of healing you are choosing it over God.
Yes, God has created certain things to help us through illness and struggles. Crystals are not one of them. They have no real ability to help improve your health and bring about true joy.
It is easy to look at crystals and see them as something innocent that does not cause harm. This is not true. They stem from another religion and their dark past consumes them.
We must be aware of the fact that when are in the midst of sin we are quick to justify it and okay our actions. This is a mindset that false idols are capable of creating.
Before you are quick to justify your use of crystals, take time to examine your actions. How much do you use your crystals? How many do you have?
Do you feel a need to have more? When you face a troubling situation do you choose your crystals or God? How much do they consume your thoughts?
Answer these questions honestly and know that you can still run to the one true God after choosing another idol ahead of Him.
Though choosing false idols and witchcraft is a sin, our Heavenly Father still forgives. You must admit that your use of crystals was wrong, and commit to choosing Him instead.
My brothers and sisters if you are using crystals in any way, I hope that this article opened your eyes to the dangers of crystals.
These beautiful creations are deceiving, and I say none of this to judge you. Instead, I say it to point you to the truth that these rocks are easy to choose over Christ. I know they are popular, but we are not to conform to the ways of this world.
In everything you do seek Him first and know that He is capable of satisfying all your needs.
