The Bible at times commands us to be still. This command is for our physical movement, but it is also for our minds. We need to take time to think about the greatness and kindness of God.
Be still and know that I am God. This is what God says in Psalm 46:10. The Bible commands us to be still so that we can think about the greatness of God. Let the fact that God is the sovereign ruler of this world and the kind lover of your soul be an encouragement to your heart.
We are so prone to distractions.
It’s hard to give God the attention of our minds and the affection of our hearts. But he calls us to slow down and worship. Let me walk you through a meditation on being still.
Be Still
It’s important to take time in quiet at times and eliminate distractions so that you can worship. There may not be that perfect time and place with zero distractions, but it is our job to do our best to put in the effort to make the time and delegate a place where it would be easier to focus on God.

God is always at work, we just have to be silent enough to realize it.
The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
Exodus 14:14
When we pause long enough to realize the sovereignty of God, we can start seeing God at work and get to know His true character. Go in that closet, turn off your music, and just listen to God.

When I truly meditate on Jesus right, I’m not about to start asking Him a bunch of questions or demanding requests from Him. I simply just sit there content that He is my Lord and Provider.
A heart of gratitude develops quickly, almost instantly, with all the things I already know about Him. Jesus truly is amazing and God made it possible through sacrificing His Son, that we can come to Him.
Know
God calls us to knowledge. When we meditate, we think about Him. The whole gospel message is about knowing the one true King. Eternal life is life forever knowing God.
And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
John 17:3
We should grow in the knowledge of our Lord. As children of God, we are forever going to be with God. This may sound strange, but the more we worship and know Him now, the more familiar and at home we will feel when we first get to heaven. Worship and growing in our knowledge of God starts now.

We should not boast in anything, but the Lord. There is no need to boast in one’s own wisdom, might, or riches, these things on temporal. Jeremiah says that we should boast in the knowledge of our Lord.
Let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 9:24
We should know our God and take delight in His perfect and holy attributes that only He is capable of being.
Many tell us that meditation means clearing your mind of everything, but this is not glorifying to God. This is because it makes meditation no longer worship.
Our goal shouldn’t be to empty our minds but to fill it with the goodness of God.
He Is God
There are so many amazing implications in the statement that he is God.
How can we know more about this holy and perfect God? The same God of the Old Testament who spoke to Abraham and Isaac, appeared to Moses through a burning bush, led the Israelites out of slavery, and had a close relationship with King David and Saul, how can we know this same God?
We can look at the attributes of God which are His qualities that constitute what He is. They are the characteristics of His natures and the qualities of His essence.
First, we can know that He is the Creator.

He himself has no origin. He created all, and everything was made by Him and for Him. He himself was never created by anyone. God has always been in existence, and independent of any creator.
I am the Alpha and Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.
Revelations 1:8
God has no limit or boundaries. He is infinite. He has no restrictions to space, ability, time, or power; He has no limits (external or internal) beyond measure.
Yours O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.
1 Chronicles 29:11
God is the most powerful thing ever in existence and is head over all.
Trust in His Power
I don’t believe we will ever fully grasp the power and authority God has. He has power over the winds and the sea.

But we do know He will have this power forever. None of His might will ever decrease.
The Lord will reign forever and ever.
Exodus 15:18
He will be King forever. God is without beginning or end. Time has no effect on God because God is the one who created time, and God is outside of time. He is everlasting, always existing, and always true.
Behold, God is great, and we know Him not; the number of His years in unsearchable
Psalms 102:25
God is omnipresent meaning the fact that He is present in all places at the same.
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
Proverbs 15:12
None can out run or hide from God. He knows all things.
And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Hebrews 4:13
God is unchangeable and we should trust in His power.
For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed
Malachi 3:6
The Lord God is abundant in power and love.
Trust His Love
Can you imagine if God did not have love and wasn’t loving? I can’t even begin to fathom what that would be like.

Would humans even be created in the first place? And if so, how would the world be different; we would have no hope.
The Bible says that God not only has this attribute of love but actually is love. God is love and is the only one who can love unconditionally in holiness.
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
1 John 4:7
Love originates from God. Loving others is a sign that we know God, because God is love.
Anyone who does not love, does not know God because God is love.
1 John 4:8
Even in our own sin, in our human struggles, and in messing up, God says He still loves us and sent us a solution for the curse of sin on humanity.
God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
This event in History, of Jesus, defeating death on the cross, was all in God’s plan. God extends an invitation to this day to respond to the Gospel, means of salvation through faith in Jesus’ work on the cross, for the whole world.

Through faith in Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection, we are justified and can freely come to God. God sacrificed His Son, Jesus; God in human form, so all can come to Him.
From the beginning of time, God intended us to live in perfect harmony with Him. We are designed to live at peace with one another, and with Christ.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20
Because of God’s love for us, we can be still before Him, know Him, and live our whole lives for our Creator.
Trust in Jesus today. If you have never come to the Father before, put your faith in Him today. He is full of might, and He is also full of love and compassion wanting a personal relationship with you.

The God of the universe knows everything about you, more than you know yourself. He sees you, and invites us into His presence.
For you formed my inward parts;
Psalms 139:13-14
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
We should never feel alone because our joy can be found in the loving, heavenly Father that he is. He takes care of His children, and if you are a child of God we should consistently be coming to the Father before anything else.
Sit at the feet of Jesus today. Bask in the presence of the Lord, and know that He is God.
